The Bears’ dominant 44-0 victory over the Cowboys at Texas Stadium on November 17, 1985 left a lasting impression for various reasons. Not only did it propel the Bears to an impressive 11-0 record, but it also secured the NFC Central championship title and put an end to a six-game losing streak against Dallas. Additionally, this game marked coach Mike Ditka’s inaugural triumph over his mentor, Cowboys coach Tom Landry.

The Bears defense held the Cowboys to only 171 yards, forced five turnovers and six sacks, and scored two touchdowns from four interceptions, resulting in the worst home defeat in franchise history for Dallas.

Payton also surprised fans by completing a 33-yard pass to Tim Wrightman. Meanwhile, Bears quarterback Steve Fuller only completed 9 of 24 passes for 164 yards and threw one interception, highlighting the dominance of the Bears defense against the Cowboys’ efforts.
