Week 17 Cowboys game at Eagles flexed out of afternoon window to 1 PM ET
Not even 24 hours after their latest victory, the Dallas Cowboys have seen a schedule adjustment for their next game. Dallas was previously scheduled to visit the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday afternoon for their penultimate game of the season, but the NFL officially flexed it back a slot to the early slate of games.
It is officially the penultimate game of Dallas’ season as they were mathematically eliminated from playoff contention on Sunday. Coincidentally, it was the Philadelphia Eagles’ loss to the Washington Commanders that finalized Dallas missing out on the playoffs.
The afternoon window, particularly this late in the season, is typically one where games of larger intrigue and stakes take place. Reality for the Cowboys is that with being mathematically out, they are not the same sort of draw. It makes sense for the league to move them to the early window.
Many wondered why the NFL didn’t flex Sunday night’s game out given Dallas’ playoff position (in terms of not really being in it). While it was unfortunate for the league and NBC that the Cowboys were eliminated before Sunday night’s kickoff, they are still the Dallas Cowboys so that was likely why they kept them in place. Amazingly, Dallas and Tampa Bay delivered quite the contest.
Get ready for early kickoffs for the final two games of the regular season in all likelihood.
